Course description

3D rendering is the process of generating a two-dimensional image or animation from a 3D model using computer software. It involves simulating light, textures, shadows, and materials to create lifelike visuals or stylized graphics. The process begins with creating a 3D model, typically in software like Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max. This model is then textured, lit, and positioned in a virtual environment.

Rendering techniques can be categorized into real-time rendering, often used in video games, and offline rendering, used for high-quality visuals in films or architectural visualization. Tools like ray tracing calculate realistic lighting by simulating how light interacts with objects. Post-processing effects, such as depth of field and motion blur, enhance the final output.

Applications of 3D rendering span industries, including entertainment, architecture, advertising, and virtual reality. Advances in GPU technology and rendering engines like Unreal Engine and V-Ray have made rendering faster and more accessible, enabling the creation of stunningly realistic or imaginative visuals.
